The More I Play with AI…
The weirder it gets. I admit it, it’s fun to put in outlandish prompts and see what it generates.
In other news, Kindle KDP is now requiring disclosure of “AI Generated” content. They differentiate between Generated and Assisted. (Assisted is using something like ProWritingAid to catch all those punctuation boo-boos.) They broke it down too. They want to know about the text and the images. Whether it was modified — just a minor tweak or a significant alteration.
They say right now it’s just for internal use, but they might show that later. Is that fair? Pitting my book that’s taken me years to write and $$ to edit and design against something that’s pushed out and published in a day is harsh. But how many people will do that? How many of their books will be returned? How many of them will eventually be booted for poor content? I dunno. Right now, probably lots but as AI gets better … that’s the rub.
Side Note: AI doesn’t understand plagiarism or copyright when creating something, so it doesn’t what what it can and can’t use.
….Having a computer write your story seems like a cold and distant world to me.
An interesting point I read was, “What if they use AI to catch AI that wasn’t reported?” (Very meta.) Currently, AI has reported people who wrote their own stuff as AI generated and AI generated as original. OOF!
Then I think about ghostwriting. People aren’t required to disclose when they use ghostwriters? Sure, one is at least a human writing, so there is more intention, but it is still not written by the person listed as the author.
I think we just have to let this play out. Because this rabbit hole is deep. It’s a new world for tech and creation.
Do You Have a Website?
I have been considering moving my current website/blog for several years now. It’s time to move to something that takes care of the maintenance for me. Right now, I have a WordPress self-hosted site. So, I’d love some feedback from you about great places to move to. If you hate places, let me know that too. Leave a comment to share with others or if you’d rather it be private, just reply to the email.
The AI Prompt
I used the prompt: The Emerald City in the Land of Oz, steampunk style, using the Synthwave effect.
Cause We're Living in an AI World
I thought your prompt had something to do with the Emerald City - glad I guessed right. :) I had a blogspot type blog (still do), and I have a Wordpress, plus I have this Substack. I have to admit, I'm not sure if I'm going to stay with one or the other, or keep them hanging on by threads...
AI has reported people who wrote their own stuff as AI generated and AI generated as original. << That kinda makes me wonder if that was done on purpose. Or in a way that they can use plausible deniability.
