This month I’m sending an email only newsletter with an exclusive—how exciting!
But right now I’d like to take a moment to rant. I like Substack, but I HATE when I subscribe to someone’s newsletter. It doesn’t tell me I’m subscribed. Nope, it tells me to pick a paid subscription plan.
This is so misleading. Because I actually did subscribe to the free newsletter. It really needs to say, would you like to upgrade to a paid subscription?
And there needs to be a close or skip button. Without it, it doubles down on the fact that you haven’t really subscribed.
I’m more than annoyed by this.
Rant over.
Thank you for reading.
I posted this as a note as well. If you agree, please repost and tack on to it and let’s let Substack know.
PS: My plan was to post this on Substack only (not email it) but I do not see a way to do that.
The main complaint from people who want to follow me from my old place to Substack is the pop-up asking for a subscription before they've even read my stuff. I thought I'd turned off any pop-ups, but I guess not.
I think there is a way, but it is one of those buttons... like when we go to post it has the post and email already clicked, I think. It's been a while since I tried to circumvent it. And now (cracks knuckles), I will look for a way.
