There’s this saying that’s been around a long time telling us we can have it all. The tricky bit they leave out is that you can’t do it all at once. I know! It’s crazy, right?
I’ve been in a pickle lately or more like stuffed in that pickle’s jar. I have a long list of things I want to do, so many things that I’m stuck on what to do first or next. Should I try these two things at the same time? What’s more important? Oh shoot, and I forget this thing. I’m sure I’m not alone here. We just get our brain’s knickers in a twist!
This happens to me maybe once or twice a year. Probably around the time I set and review my goals. 😕
The truth is we can have it all, just not all at once. For me, it’s a matter of telling myself, some stuff won’t get done this year.
A few things on my docket are…
Get my novel proofed.
Format it.
Try to design the cover. I spent $$ on edits, so I need to save where I can. Yes, I’m a graphic designer and illustrator, but working with images of people on covers (posters, cards, etc.) does not come easy for me. I’m giving myself to the end of spring. If I can’t do it, I can’t. I am willing to admit that. Then I will hire someone. But I will push myself.
Write sequel for said novel.
Finalize my marketing plan and get moving on it.
Finish a series of non-fic books – that I’ve been working on for years.
Move my website – I’m both looking forward to that and dreading it.
That’s just author-y stuff. I also have my work stuff, my art stuff, home life (big decision on whether to get a peony this year 😁), etc.
What about you? Please confirm that I’m not alone in overthinking and overwhelming myself!
Phase One of Marketing (Part One): Announce the Book
I’m officially announcing the name and details of my urban fantasy novel.
The Title: Bloodstone
Releasing: September or October
The Blurb:
Katelyn Grey is a gardener in Southern California. She’s content with pruning shrubs and looking after her step-mom, the only family she has left. That is, until a lawyer shows up and tells her that her long-lost aunt died, leaving her the family home on the other side of the country.
Though Katelyn hates to travel, a weird clause in her aunt’s will forces her to visit a quaint New England seaside town. Her world changes when she discovers she’s inherited a haunted brownstone, fickle magic, and a hidden key that someone else wants. And they’re willing to kill for it.
Now, she must learn how to use magic, find the key, and figure out what it’s for before she ends up like her long-lost aunt. Dead.
Phase One of Marketing (Part Two): Take Names
If you’re interested in reading an ARC, having me as a guest poster, or shouting out my book on your blog or social media, let me know. Just add your name right here. (It's a Google form.)
This is not a commitment, just an I’m interested. I’ll send you an email when I have the date set and a plan of action.
I'm very partial too dragons...the Eastern type.
Yeah, there are too many things to do and not enough time to do them all. Daily.
